Jerry Dubins
Fanfare, January 2012

The two piano quartets—the only two Raff wrote that I know of—are beautiful examples of a post-Mendelssohn, post-Schumann Romanticism in a genre of composition that doesn’t seem to have found a lot of favor among 19th-century composers.

…I can happily report that performances given here and Divox’s SACD recording are exemplary. Recommended to all chamber music fanciers. © 2012 Fanfare Read complete review on Fanfare

Don O’Connor
American Record Guide, November 2011

The playing is magnificent; virtuosic, committed, and totally convincing. The interpretations are lively, even brawny in their abandonment; but, pardon the paradox, it’s abandonment totally under control. I never thought SACD sound would be that critical with chamber music, but was I ever wrong! The sound has an immediacy that makes you feel you’re sitting amid the ensemble. If you’re a Raff fan, this is self-recommending. If you simply like off-beat, inspired 19th Century repertoire, look no further.

Blair Sanderson, August 2011

The two works are expressive and at times poignant…Raff always offered idiomatic writing for his instruments and created melodies that were attractive and memorable. Ensemble Il Trittico lends a gemütlich character to the music that makes it ingratiating, and the high-quality SACD multichannel format makes the instruments sound clear, warm, and full. This album is a fine introduction to Raff, and if it doesn’t win many converts to his cause, it at least brings to light two unfairly neglected works.

Mark Thomas – The essential Raff reference, June 2011

…this is a magnificent addition to the Raff discography which deserves to be bought in its thousands.
