Rafael de Acha
Rafael’s Music Notes, December 2018

Ms. Leonard’s voice is that of a lyric mezzo, with a lovely timbre, plenty of flexibility, and the capability of changing colors at will to serve both text and music. And she has the comfort and confidence at both ends of her range to achieve spectacular results… © 2018 Rafael’s Music Notes Read complete review

Erin Heisel
American Record Guide, March 2016

Leonard has a bright voice with some real depth. There’s more vibrato than you may be used to, but I like the tone very much. Judith Malafronte
Opera News, August 2015

…Brian Zeger’s colorful, bold contributions are a constant delight, whether pointing up left-hand melodies, bringing out inner voices, or toying delightfully with the Spanish dance rhythms. Leonard’s sensitivity to a song’s atmosphere finds expression in performances that are committed… © 2015 Opera News Read complete review

Phil Muse
Audio Video Club of Atlanta, July 2015

Isabel Leonard’s voice covers the full range of these songs, from a playful bantering…to a darker quality that recalls the fact that she was a student of “the incomparable” Marilyn Horne. © 2015 Audio Video Club of Atlanta Read complete review, May 2015

Two folk-based and dark-hued songs by Lorca come across particularly well here, as do Montsalvatge’s Cinco canciónes negras, whose varied moods both Leonard and pianist Brian Zeger seem to understand intuitively and thus handle with a strong sense of empathy. This CD is called Preludios, referring to de Falla’s Op. 16, but in fact the disc may be a prelude to something else: increasing listener interest not only in these songs but also in Leonard, whose warmth and involvement in this largely less-than-familiar repertoire are winning. © 2015 Read complete review
