Fanfare, September 2014

Those who cherish these sonatas, those who admire Leclair, and those who simply love the violin—all should find these CDs and the accompanying Blu-ray highly attractive. The recorded sound’s fine…with no heavy breathing. Urgently recommended. © 2014 Fanfare Read complete review

Robin Stowell
The Strad, July 2014

Greg Ewer and Adam LaMotte…gel cohesively and complement each other well in this landmark recording of Leclair’s twelve violin duo sonatas…they play with zest and athleticism, as well as tonal and technical command, and their performances are musically engaging and artistically satisfying.

The high-definition studio recording is exemplary—natural, detailed, spacious and well balanced. © 2014 The Strad Read complete review

Mark Sealey
MusicWeb International, July 2014

From the first notes of the first bar of this excellent two-CD set, you know you’re in good hands and are going to hear some splendid music-making. The genre could run the risk of sameness or, perhaps worse, might invite spurious gimmicks by the performers to ‘liven it up’. Not a bit of that here: the soloists bring a persuasive blend of verve and technical brilliance mixed with unselfconscious insight to two hours of focused, intense, yet sanguine music from the mid-eighteenth century.

If you’re new to Leclair and/or if you enjoy this repertoire, there may be more originality, spike and sheer beauty in the music than you had imagined. It’s played in a way that invites you in, quietly and unostentatiously. Yet, once you’re ‘hooked’, Ewer and Lamotte expose its subtleties and strengths in ways that make you want to listen all over again. Quite something. © 2014 MusicWeb International Read complete review

Gapplegate Classical-Modern Music Review, July 2014

Greg Ewer and Adam Lamotte do a fine job performing the works. They capture the natural buoyancy of the music, giving us readings that are both sweet and dynamic.

…the sound is excellent.

Those who appreciate spirited early music performances of works not well known will revel in this music. But the album affords a good deal of pleasure regardless of your background. It’s an excellent set! © 2014 Gapplegate Classical-Modern Music Review Read complete review

Sono Luminus has gifted us with very powerful performances and a recording to match with this disc of the complete Sonatas for Violin by Jean Marie LeClair…

The performers here are Greg Ewer and Adam Lamotte. The sound…is first rate.

This disc will appeal to lovers of Baroque, especially those wanting to venture out into composers not often heard. The performances are superb, and the recording is as perfect as one could hope for. © 2014 Audiophile Audition Read complete review

The violinists on this…recording are Greg Ewer and Adam LaMotte…They are both technically adept, taking on all of Leclair’s challenges without showing the slightest flurry of inconvenience…each of these sonatas is a gem unto itself; and it is a delight to encounter a duo that can perform each with full recognition of its precious qualities. © 2014 Examiner.com Read complete review

Positive Feedback Online, March 2014

I got more than I expected with this new release.

These beautiful compositions seem to be perfectly performed here as might be expected…The audio quality is probably as close to perfect as can be done with the current state of the art. If you know any very good amateur violinists that like to play duos, you might be doing them a favor to mention this outstanding release. © 2014 Positive Feedback Online Read complete review
