Joe Harris
Lute Society of America Quarterly, June 2017

…this recording is outstanding on every level. Special credit should go to Savino and El Mundo for their glorious music making. I whole-heartedly recommend this disc to anyone who has any interest in late 16th and early 17th-century Italian music. © 2017 Lute Society Quarterly of America

The long list of El Mundo’s members, and the number of instruments some of them play, makes for a constant variety of timbre and texture. On the whole, the purely instrumental works fare best of all, such as the Sinfonia by Gagliano, played with subtly perceptive sympathy, the very attractive reading of the Sonata Prima of Dario Castello and the Sinfonia a due by Francesco Corbetta. © 2016 MusicWeb International Read complete review

Barry Brenesal
Fanfare, May 2016

The performances by El Mundo are exuberant, expressive, and occasionally ragged…

The sound is very well balanced, with good, forward placing of all musicians, in an acoustic that’s clean without over-indulging resonance. While I have my reservations about Ricci, overall this is a fine disc with some memorable performances; recommended. © 2016 Fanfare Read complete review

Catherine Moore
American Record Guide, January 2016

The players and singers in El Mundo perform with very good grace and a fine sense of style. Among the best performances are the pieces written for sopranos, such as Luigi Rossi’s ‘Occhi Belli’ and ‘Fan Battaglia’, as well as Mazzocchi’s ‘Folle Cor’. …There’s a nice lilting elegance in the two English-language songs by Nicholas Lanier, both sung here by soprano Jennifer Ellis.

The repertoire is very well chosen and the conceit behind the program is both attractive and meaningful. © 2016 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

D. James Ross
Early Music Review, November 2015

The performances by the singers and instrumentalists of El Mundo are lively and heavily characterized, …there is some lovely and unobtrusive vocal ornamentation. The enormous continuo department includes Baroque guitars, harps, archlute, theorbos, harpsichord and organ, and as a result there is an engaging variety of instrumental colours on display. © 2015 Early Music Review Read complete review

Brian Wilson
MusicWeb International, October 2015

El Mundo is a chamber group dedicated to the performance of sixteenth to nineteenth century Latin American, Spanish and Italian chamber music. Under the direction of guitarist/lutenist Richard Savino, it was formed in 1999 and on the basis of this recording it’s one of today’s finest period-instrument ensembles. © 2015 MusicWeb International Read complete review
