David Reynolds
American Record Guide, November 2017

The singers aren’t bad at all. In fact, most of them stand up very well to the Met’s starrier line-up. Carmen Romeu doesn’t have Fleming’s vocal beauty, but she knows what the role is about and sings the fiendish coloratura with alacrity. Enea Scala, singing the lead tenor role Rinaldo, also handles his coloratura expertly and is one of the few tenors I’ve seen who looks good without a shirt. The other singers and the chorus enter into the fun of this production with enthusiasm. Alberto Zedda, a well-known Rossini scholar who died earlier this year, conducts ably and well. I loved the zaniness of the action, but also wondered what Rossini would have made of it. Somehow I think he would have enjoyed it too. © 2017 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

The young Spanish soprano Carmen Romeu is a musically accomplished Armida… © 2017 Gramophone Read complete review on Gramophone
