Early Music, August 2015

KOŽELUCH, L.: Keyboard Sonatas (Complete), Vol. 1 (K. English) GP642
KOŽELUCH, L.: Keyboard Sonatas (Complete), Vol. 2 (K. English) GP643

This is entertaining music, especially when played with English’s panache and vitality…there is a satisfying forthrightness about English’s style, and his playing positively fizzes with brilliance. © 2015 Early Music

KOŽELUCH, L.: Keyboard Sonatas (Complete), Vol. 1 (K. English) GP642
KOŽELUCH, L.: Keyboard Sonatas (Complete), Vol. 2 (K. English) GP643

His [English] sensitive playing and intelligent sleeve notes evoke variously “strong energy and drama”, “brilliant naivete” and “advanced bravura”. His light and shade and finger clarity are superb. © 2014 New Zeland Listener

David's Review Corner, March 2014

If Leopold Kozeluch should continue to hold a place in the history of music, it will be as a music publisher and champion of the newly invented fortepiano. Still trying to fathom out dates of composition from the attached notes written by the soloist, I have now given up, though I guess the four works on the disc date from sometime after 1780. In content they are pleasing workaday pieces with sudden moments of inspiration as we find in the opening movement of the Thirteenth sonata. Performed on a copy of a fortepiano of the period, you feel throughout for the allegiance English has towards the composer, his playing beautifully clear, and the instrument a joy to hear. Much commended to the musically curious. © 2014 David’s Review Corner
