MusicWeb International, March 2017

This is a wonderful set, one in which The Invencia Piano Duo should not only be congratulated, but also thanked. Their playing is impeccable and shows great sensibility throughout, but it is their research and dedication to the composer that deserves the applause, with every disc containing premiere recordings. © 2017 MusicWeb International Read complete review

David Denton
David's Review Corner, January 2017

Released over the past four years, the complete four-hand piano music of the French composer, Florent Schmitt, is gathered together in a four disc boxed set. Born in France in 1870, he never fitted into the era of composers that included Debussy, Ravel, Roussel and Poulenc, his style going way beyond the geographic area of his homeland and rather followed the influences of his extensive travels. Those who know his music will describe it as highly coloured and often of exotic content, so that looking back at my reviews of these four discs, I find works described as ‘coffee-house popular classics’, ‘neurotic’ and ‘chameleon-like’, though wherever he takes us, I cannot but like the outcome. At times you can imagine the scores being just within the scope of talented amateurs playing them for personal pleasure, though, more often than not, they are quite demanding. Based in North America, The Invencia Piano Duo is formed from Andrey Kasparov and Oksana Lutsyshyn, with their respective Armenian and Ukrainian backgrounds, their playing being both refined and elegant as they move around Schmitt’s many personalities with an obvious affection. They have also undertaken most of the basic tasks of making this pleasing recording, and have provided highly informative notes on the disc’s contents. Released at the price of two discs. © 2017 David’s Review Corner
