Robert A Moore
American Record Guide, November 2018

These compositions have substance and can certainly not be called trifles. To single out just two of these gems, I especially like the varied interludes between strophes of the delightful ‘Sally in Our Alley’ and how the dramatic substance of ‘The Lovely Lass of Inverness’ draws out the sadness of the tale.

The program is engaging and appealing. The Austrian TrioVanBeethoven [sic] performs with both panache and delicacy, and the recorded sound is superb. © 2018 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

The singers, 10 years on, still sound excellent and really sell the songs’ stories, and the Trio Van Beethoven adds passion and crackle as the backup band. The proposition of owning and listening to all of Beethoven’s 179 such arrangements might only be attractive to hardened completists, but a smattering of them is a terrific way of hearing a different, rarely encountered side of Beethoven. Which is exactly what’s on offer here. © 2018 ClassicsToday.com Read complete review

Uwe Krusch
Pizzicato, September 2018

Beethoven has composed a larger number of small pieces upheaving folk songs into refined serious music. A selection of his Gaelic pieces shows his abilities also in this field. Together with the Trio Van Beethoven, soprano Lorna Anderson and tenor Jamie MacDougall, give thrilling accounts of this seldom heard repertoire. © 2018 Pizzicato
