Raymond Tuttle
Fanfare, September 2020

Klangkollektiv Wien is one of those ensembles that plays modern instruments in a historically-informed way. The string complement is 6–5–4–4–2, which allows the music’s textures to maintain an exciting openness…

The recorded sound is immediate and exciting.

Ballot has recorded a Schubert disc (Symphonies 1 and 8) with Klangkollektiv Wien, and I would be interested to hear it, based on this new Beethoven disc. © 2020 Fanfare Read complete review

Remy Franck
Pizzicato, February 2020

The orchestra, which mainly consists of musicians from the Vienna Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Niederösterreichische Tonkünstler, impresses with a live recording of the Eroica, played in a historically informed manner on modern instruments. The sound is very fresh and transparent. With the different levels of the music being clearly exposed, one is listening behind the first lines in order to grasp the meaningfulness of what is happening in the side-lines. The nice thing is that the music never gets purely technical, but even rather soulful.

In the Egmont Overture, whose drama often remains underexposed, a lot of geographical-dramatic contrasts and again a great transparency let the playing become truly excellent. © 2020 Pizzicato Read complete review
