John Sheppard
MusicWeb International, September 2012

…there are special virtues in Ivan Petrov’s firm bass and Vishnevskaya’s majestic if not always firm soprano. The others are at least adequate on the whole. The chorus and orchestra are much more than that. They are simply superb, throwing themselves into the work with real energy and commitment.

Overall this set was a real discovery for me. Even if you normally avoid recordings of this period because of their perceived antiquated sound this is worth hearing for its sheer panache. The cover describes the performance of the Requiem as “electrifying” and I can do little better than echo that view, adding only that the Overtures are worthy companions. © 2012 MusicWeb International Read complete review

Norman Lebrecht
La Scena Musicale, June 2012

This 1960 Moscow concert, conducted by Igor Markevitch, is among the most thrilling Requiems I have heard since Giulini’s—knife-edge tempi, thunderous choirs and Nina Isakova, Vladmimir Ivanovsky and Ivan Petrov with Galina on the frontline in all-out assault…the energy is sensational. Must be heard to be believed. © 2012 Lebrecht Report/La Scena Musicale Read complete review
