Danielle M. Walters
AudioFile, March 2018

As narrator, Philip Franks has a friendly, upbeat tone and keeps a steady pace throughout the audiobook. His rendering of the dialogue is where his talents especially shine. Franks provides suitable country dialects for Ma and Pop Larkin, which are particularly entertaining in their feeble attempts to speak French. He is equally successful in portraying the French characters with more convincing French pronunciation than the Larkins demonstrate. Franks adds a lighthearted feel to the novel that makes its fun even more so. © 2018 AudioFile Read complete review

Midwest Book Review, May 2016

A Breath of French Air is the unabridged audiobook presentation of the second novel of the Pop Larkin series by H.E. Bates. When the Larkin family visits France, everything that can go wrong seemingly does, from the bad weather to the questionable food to the disrepair of their hotel. Can a wedding anniversary celebration anniversary turn things around? It’s up to Pop Larkin’s gift of gab to lighten family spirits, in this fantastic foray of free-spirited fun! © 2016 Midwest Book Review
