David Denton
David's Review Corner, May 2013

The full potential of Blu-ray comes here, not only with its advanced audio quality, but also with the ability to hold the material contained on two conventional CDs. Part of the disc is reviewed in its CD format above, and the other half was included in these columns last October. In both I have been enthusiastic about the original project to record the complete overtures on four CDs, but that can now be translated as two Blu-ray Audio disc. That in financial terms means you get either version at around the same price, the present Blu-ray playing for little short of two hours. What is the difference? Well to put it in a nutshell, the CD sounds like a recording, while Blu-ray takes us into the concert hall, or certainly as near as we are ever likely to achieve. For all top-end equipment owners the choice is obvious, take the Blu-ray. © David’s Review Corner
