Seán Laffey
Irish Music Magazine, September 2020

Their previous album, TÌR – Highland Life & Lore, won accolades and awards. I suspect they’ll need a space on the mantelpiece after this masterpiece reaches many more discerning and influential ears. © 2020 Irish Music Magazine

Here we find the timeless charm of Celtic music, made of ancient moods and stories—simple but fascinating. © 2020 CulturaCommestibile.com

The Living Tradition, June 2020

If you are interested in Gaelic material with a contemporary twist—and indeed with an eye towards farther shores—this album should be high on your list. © 2020 The Living Tradition

Baker & Taylor CD Hotlist, May 2020

…The two singers [Ó Headhra and MacKenzie] explore connections between Gaelic music and that of other Northern European traditions, with traditional Celtic songs rubbing shoulders with tunes from Denmark, Galicia, and Norway. (And some originals are slipped into the program for good measure.) Stylistically, the album is expansive as well: electronic instruments, beats, and vocal treatments work cooperatively with traditional acoustic instruments to create truly unique and lovely settings for these songs and for Ó Headhra’s and MacKenzie’s voices. © 2020 Baker & Taylor CD Hotlist Read complete review

Rhythms, May 2020

The duo’s music is simultaneously ethereal and evocative and sonically stimulating… Their inventive interpretations of ancient Gaelic texts and newly written material—delivered in Scottish and Irish Gaelic, Danish, Norwegian and Galician, often with layered harmonies—are enchanting and engaging. © 2020 Rhythms Read complete review

Mike Kamp
Folker, May 2020

“Never change a winning team,” they say in sports—and why should it be different in music? The victorious Scottish team: The couple Brian Ó hEadhra (vocals, Bodhrán) and Fiona Mackenzie (vocals) as well as the multi-instrumentalist, sound designer and producer Mike Vass. The latter is (besides being part of the band Malinky) the modern edition of another Mike—Mike Oldfield. Both pile up larger and smaller sound mountains, but here never as an end in itself, but always in the exciting and imaginative service of the Gaelic songs with two exceptions, which Ó hEadhra and Mackenzie chose or wrote themselves (in five cases). Innes White (stringed instruments), Tom Gibbs (keyboard instruments) and the artist daughters Órla and Róise (backing vocals) also join this team. Like the previous album ‘TìR – Highland Life And Lore’, the songs loosely follow a theme, mostly northern songs from Scotland, Ireland, Denmark and Norway, but also an outlier Galicia is there. This is how folk music should sound these day—modern, innovative, intrepid, but always committed to its roots. © 2020 Folker

CeltBritFolk, April 2020

Both Ó hEadhra and MacKenzie are proven and established Celtic musicians who, with Tìr, broke some serious ground with a heady combination of Celtic trad, modern folk, world music, electro fusion and ambient, all integrated into something I had never really heard before. It was an enchanting album…

…All this would come to nought were it not for the artists’ strong presence and human touch in their vocal and instrumental performances. And they complement each other brilliantly: Fiona’s intensity (in Rosa das Rosas chant-like singing it’s almost chilling) is counterbalanced by Brian’s gentle voice, and together they are just brilliant. The tunes are both old and new, each firmly anchored in its home country’s tradition and sensibility, no matter how surprising the arrangement. © 2020 CeltBritFolk Read complete review

World Music Central, April 2020

…Ó hEadhra, Mackenzie and their colleagues masterfully combine acoustic instruments with delightful and mesmerizing subtle electronic elements, including dreamtime ambient layers. The sound design was finely crafted by highly talented musician and composer Mike Vass. © 2020 World Music Central Read complete review

With dreamlike harmonies, modern interpretations of prehistoric, Gaelic lyrics and songs (with tasteful synthesizers), Ó hEadhra and Mackenzie explore the connections between the Gaels and its neighbors. © 2020 Lira
