Richard Sininger
American Record Guide, July 2014

The orchestral and choral work is excellent. The long leading role of Fevroniya requires a great deal of stamina…[and] Svetlana Ignatovich fills the bill vocally quite well, and her acting radiates the goodness and innocence of this idealized woman.

I certainly would recommend this production to anyone wanting to become familiar with a major Russian work that isn’t performed that often outside Russia… © 2014 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

Opera News, July 2014

This superb DVD set of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s late masterpiece The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevronia documents the acclaimed 2012 production in Amsterdam by Dmitri Tcherniakov.

Conductor Marc Albrecht elicits strong performances from relatively unknown leads.

The chorus and Mayram Sokolova (an affecting Page) rise valiantly to the challenge. And the finale—if Rimsky made it rather endless—is wonderfully imagined. © 2014 Opera News Read complete review

Dmitri Tcherniakov’s staging of Rimsky-Korsakov’s ‘The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh’ is a masterpiece, and on the musical side there is no less power under the inspired baton of Marc Albrecht. For anyone who does not know this outstanding and certainly underrated work, this video is a must-buy. © 2014 Pizzicato

The committed theatricality of the cast…goes far to making the production convincing on its own terms, especially tenor Maxim Aksenov’s vocally hail, boyish prince, John Daszak’s devoured-from-within madness as Grishka and, most of all, Svetlana Ignatovich as Fevroniya, a long role that she portrays with a nervous air of often joyful expectation and sings without strain or fatigue. This could be a career-making performance—and one achieved with the inspired support of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra under Marc Albrecht. © 2014 Gramophone Read complete review on Gramophone

Marc Albrecht…pulls all the threads together in a musical performance that is gripping moment-to-moment and overwhelming in toto. This Legend is as stirring as opera needs to get. © 2014 Bay Area Reporter Read complete review
