Rob Haskins
American Record Guide, March 2014

The singing is uniformly fine…The orchestra and chorus perform expertly for Davies, who continues to show an enviably deep familiarity with the expressive challenges posed by Glass’s late music. © 2014 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

MusicWeb International, January 2014

If you know and like the work of Philip Glass then this issue is self recommending. I need only assure you that it is well done in all respects from composition, through theatrical production to home reproduction.

The Perfect American is lyrical and at times borders on tuneful; as theatre it is wonderfully imaginative. It is certainly not difficult to enjoy and this issue is well worth its moderate asking price. © 2014 MusicWeb International Read complete review

GLASS, P.: Perfect American (The) (Teatro Real, 2013) (NTSC) OA1117D
GLASS, P.: Perfect American (The) (Teatro Real, 2013) (Blu-ray, HD) OABD7129D

Christopher Purves impressively conveys the complex and ultimately flawed character of Walt, and the disturbing dialogue between him and the excellent Zachary James as an animatronic President Lincoln powered by tubes and cables, which closes Act 1, is one of the opera’s high points.

Opus Arte’s production is excellent…and brings The Perfect American…very vividly to life. © 2014 Gramophone Read complete review on Gramophone

Blu-rayDefinition.com, November 2013

Using a combination of sets and projections…we get a visually effective delivery of the Glass opera. Colors are excellent and camera work keeps the show moving along.

Orchestral and vocal balance is excellent with modest ambience in the surround version.

The Perfect American attempts to be a probing view of one of the most famous Americans of all time…Nice music, nice staging… © 2013 Blu-rayDefinition.com Read complete review
