Robert Delcamp
American Record Guide, November 2017

[The choir of Magdalen College’s] sound is full and rich and is captured in superb recorded sound. They sing a mixture of familiar and unfamiliar carols crowned by their performance of Warlock’s ‘Bethlehem Down’ and the Vaughan Williams Fantasia on Christmas Carols, accompanied by organ rather than the usual orchestra. Organ pieces by Dupre, Sumsion, and Bach are interspersed. © 2017 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

Ronald E. Grames
Fanfare, March 2017

This is a compilation of Christmas music for chorus, all of it written or arranged in the 20th century, plus organ works appropriate to the season from several centuries. I am singling it out for recommendation, among the rushing stream of Christmas releases that wash over us every year, for the particularly pleasant combination of familiar and less familiar carols and songs, for the delightfully colorful and exuberant singing of the choristers and choral scholars of Magdalen College Oxford, and for the first-rate organ playing by the organ scholars and, in the solo works, by director Daniel Hyde. Hyde guides the proceedings with energy and unusual sensitivity to flow, so there is nary a moment that is not a joy. © 2017 Fanfare Read complete review

Brian Wilson
MusicWeb International, December 2016

I’m pleased to see two recordings from my Alma Mater among all the offerings from the other place—actually three: this, the Oxrecs album and The Sixteen who are Oxford-based. The multiple 5-star reviews on Amazon confirm that it’s not just nostalgia that makes me give this a strong recommendation. One satisfied customer has bought nine to give out as Christmas presents—hopefully it’s not too late for me to recommend that as a good idea. © 2016 MusicWeb International
