The Absolute Sound, December 2015

The “Meditation” from Thais is warm-blooded but not sentimental. Kaunzner’s own Korean Drip Cather has some poetic melodies and creative harp writing Jacques Ibert’s Spanish-tinged “Entr’acte” is fun and over-caffeinated, as his music often is. Song of Sackcloth, by Ja Young Choi, is a beautiful lament. Saint-Saens’ Fantasy has a lot of melodic flair, but it doesn’t have the discipline to tie its sections together. Still, the musicians are unbeatable; I’d listen to anything they played. © 2015 The Absolute Sound

Murray Schafer’s Wild Bird, both players are again extremely versatile, turning this tale of “a vulture that tears its prey to pieces, eats it, and then rises in the air again” into a dramatic, engaging, quasi-gypsy work that is accessible, exhilarating, and wonderfully integrated.
