James H. North
Fanfare, November 2015

There is a unique atmosphere about Bruckner’s music which is difficult to describe in words—and apparently even more difficult to achieve in performance—but we all recognize it when we hear it. Simone Young’s Bruckner Seventh has it in spades, right from the opening measures. © 2015 Fanfare Read complete review

Fanfare, September 2015

This is one of those performances where you feel from the opening phrases that everything is just right. The music soars, yet has all the heft and depth one could want. Orchestral balances are excellent… Above all, the spirit of Bruckner, often felt in the concert hall but so elusive in recordings, is present.

This is a glorious Bruckner Seventh. © 2015 Fanfare Read complete review

…this Bruckner Seventh is a wonderful recording, worthy to stand with the best. The playing…is really gorgeous, and I was enthralled… © 2015 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

This Seventh relies heavily on the excellent playing of Philharmoniker Hamburg, an ensemble that has retained something of its own unique orchestral sound. There is warmth and fine ensemble work throughout the symphony, along with a strong sense of rhythm: Bruckner’s typical three-against-two passages come through clearly, and the Scherzo is strong and does not lumber. © 2015 Infodad.com Read complete review

One of the most striking characteristics of the present performance is the consistency of flow throughout. This is one of the most ‘straight’ performances…Young shows herself the master of subtlety because her interpretation, from a score with Bruckner’s instructions intact, is always absorbing yet never in any way disturbing. © 2015 MusicWeb International Read complete review

I enjoyed this performance very much. I also liked the sound on this SACD which has presence and definition. There’s a good front-to-back perspective and all sections of the orchestra have been well served by the engineers. In particular the brass, so important in Bruckner’s sound-world, register very satisfyingly yet never excessively. © 2015 MusicWeb International Read complete review

Bruckner’s Seventh concludes Simone Young’s Bruckner cycle in a most glorious and refreshingly urgent way. The beautifully recorded music flows broadly and with much vibrancy. © 2015 Pizzicato
