Australian Hi-Fi, July 2016

…one of the best orchestral recordings I have ever heard. There is a wide soundstage and the strings never sound shrill or exaggerated. The whole blend of the orchestra sounds very close to what I hear in live performance, so one forgets about the ‘recording’ and settles in to listen to the music. © 2016 Australian Hi-Fi

Huntley Dent
Fanfare, January 2016

Young conducts as if no difficulties exist. She moves naturally from event to event, always musical, never drawing attention to contrasts and peculiarities… The orchestra plays with appealing vigor in the fast music… © 2015 Fanfare Read complete review

Paul L Althouse
American Record Guide, January 2016

This Fifth, taken at tempos that are perhaps slightly quicker than the norm, flows beautifully without mannerism or distortion; everything is in good balance and proportion. The orchestra plays very well… © 2016 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

…a quite magnificent account of Bruckner’s most difficult symphony. © 2015 MusicWeb International Read complete review

Christian Hoskins
Gramophone, October 2015

The performance of the Fifth Symphony shares many of the qualities of earlier releases in the series, notably the committed playing of the Hamburg orchestra as well as Young’s confident navigation of Bruckner’s symphonic architecture. Tempi are well judged throughout, the Scherzo in particular enjoying an easy forward momentum without the stridency that affects some performances. © 2015 Gramophone Read complete review on Gramophone

Robert Benson, September 2015

Engineers again have done an outstanding job in capturing a huge orchestral sound, and the massive brass in the final movement is impressive indeed. This is an outstanding issue in a very crowded field. © 2015 Read complete review

Blair Sanderson, August 2015

…this is one of [Young’s] finest performances and a stirring summation, bringing to a close her 10 years as artistic director of the Hamburg Philharmonic. This hybrid SACD is highly recommended and is required listening for all Brucknerians. © 2015 Read complete review
