Victor Carr Jr
ClassicsToday.com, August 2015

…a harvest of inner detail, much of it barely audible in full-size orchestral performances (but well captured by Ondine’s vivid recordings), which continually surprises and delights.

Ultimately, Berglund’s performances constitute an alternative side-trip that fascinates while you are on it… Recommended. © 2015 ClassicsToday.com Read complete review

MusicWeb International, July 2013

Throughout these performances the playing of the COE is excellent. Berglund’s direction is sure-footed…these are very good accounts of these inexhaustible symphonies and the reduced orchestral forces enable a fine and most welcome degree of clarity, in which task the players are helped by Ondine’s good, clear recordings. This is a desirable set which I’m glad I’ve heard and to which I’m sure I’ll return with pleasure. © 2013 MusicWeb International Read complete review

Listen: Life with Classical Music, June 2013

Paavo Berglund’s long association with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe brought about an indispensable Sibelius symphony cycle…of clarity and transparency like no other. Now Ondine has post-humously published Berglund’s 2001 recordings of the Brahms symphonies, which feature some of the same qualities—most especially in the rhythmically tricky Third Symphony, where Berglund coaxes nifty, quicksilver utterly delightful phrases out of his players. With the COE, there’s no sluggish, lumbering playing…That results in a set that will likely supplant your favorites… © 2013 Listen: Life with Classical Music Read complete review
