John Boyer
American Record Guide, September 2010

[Soile Isokoski's] admirers—and I am one—can be assured that this album of Finnish songs finds her in top form.

She is to be commended for recording an album whose most familiar composer is Yrjo Kilpinen (1892-1959)...The reader is strongly encouraged to make the acquaintance of Erkki Melartin (1875-1937), Ilmar Hannikainen (1892-1955), and the seven other composers recorded here. There are many gems; and the varied styles, ranging from high romantic to conservative modernism, make for an attractive program.

She projects a confident, almost regal tone that should please even the most discriminating listener. Pianist Marita Viitasalo could have been a bit more assertive (or recorded a bit more closely), but otherwise makes an able partner.

Informative notes are included, as are Finnish texts with English translations. This is rewarding for the adventurous song collector and for any admirer of this fine singer.
