Steven Ritter
Audiophile Audition, August 2014

Paul Hindemith wrote few ballets; Hérodiade is based on Stéphane Mallarmé’s dialogue poem…The music for the textual portions of the nurse in the poem is given to the strings, while the lines of Hérodiade are represented by the winds as well as the piano. It doesn’t sound like a ballet but it is one of the composer’s most original, provocative, and richly romantic-sounding works with its luscious orchestration and vibrant rhythms.

The chamber ensemble Inscape offers a sterling reading in excellent sound… © 2014 Audiophile Audition Read complete review

Gapplegate Classical-Modern Music Review, June 2014

The well-received ensemble Inscape* under Richard Scerbo gives us a lively yet precise reading of the work…

If you don’t have this one, here is your chance. It is prototypically Hindemithian so a good choice for those who do not as yet have much by the composer. And it is hard to do better than this new Inscape* performance, so it is a welcome rendition for the confirmed Hindemith enthusiast, too. © 2014 Gapplegate Classical-Modern Music Review Read complete review
