Raymond Tuttle
Fanfare, May 2016

This is a challenging program, for [Watras] and for us, but she has no difficulties with its technical challenges, and she is an imaginative and emotional communicator throughout. The more you listen to Ispirare, the more you want to listen to it again, and that is thanks to Watras’s musicianship, and her interesting choice of repertoire. This is not your usual viola recital! © 2016 Fanfare Read complete review

The sound is terrific. Strongly recommended—in particular, for the Berio and Ran. © 2016 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

Doyle Armbrust
WQXR (New York), October 2015

If ass-kicking in classical music could be likened to that of late-80’s-to-early-90’s action heroes, Melia Watras is a Jean-Claude Van Damme of the viola—which is to say (sonically) muscular in all the right places, elegant in delivery of a solar plexus punch…

Her mastery is immediately evident in the George Rochberg Sonata which opens the record—a piece that might be charitably called Recital Music™ in its craftiness and Prokofiev-light aimlessness. …Watras injects these pages with beguiling, long-range phrasing and relentlessly luxurious tone. If and when the zombie apocalypse is upon us, and surgeons are in short supply, wounded listeners would do well to line up for the steady hands of this violist. © 2015 WQXR (New York) Read complete review
