Robert A Moore
American Record Guide, January 2017

What a voice! Even with mediocre to miserable recording quality, even with an odd assortment of music, this is a delight to hear. I will never tire of the joy, energy, and sheer beauty of his voice. Who else could prompt delight in hearing a collection of recitatives and one aria from Bach’s Christmas Oratorio? These excepts from the December 18, 1955 Stuttgart concert conducted by August Langenbeck—one of the tenor’s earliest major concert appearances—gives a glimpse of what Wunderlich would achieve 10 years later for Karl Richter in the same work. His performance of ‘Frohe Hirten’ reveals glorious coloratura control and elegant legato delivery. © 2017 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

Gavin Engelbrecht
The Northern Echo, December 2016

The first instalment of the ten-CD Fritz Wunderlich series, this album includes an early recording of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, made at the beginning of his career. Other performances in this collection are studio recordings, and only exist in this early series of Stuttgart radio productions. A must for devotees of arguably the singer of the last century. © 2016 The Northern Echo
