Huntley Dent
Fanfare, March 2018

…the main appeal of this new set is that it serves as a convenient omnium gatherum for operetta aficionados, in good remastered sound. Wunderlich will remain incomparable, or very nearly so, in these songs for a long time, which in itself is no small reason to consider a purchase. © 2018 Fanfare Read complete review

Elliot Fisch
American Record Guide, January 2018

Of the 31 selections, Wunderlich’s rich voice is perfect for the “Silver Age” songs, from Giuditta, Countess Maritza, and Rose of Stambul. Wunderlich was also capable of singing the “Bronze Age” songs without sounding like an opera singer, but it’s not a style you would expect from him. In some cases, he sounds like Pat Boone (that’s not a negative comment) singing some of these rare, but minor songs.

Some of the songs were recorded very early in Wunderlich’s career (1954–55) while he was still a student in Stuttgart. His voice has a youthful sweetness that deepened over the next few years; but like everything else he sang, the tone and expression are notable. © 2018 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide
