Bertil van Boer
Fanfare, May 2018

The performance of both singers and instrumentalists are top-rate. The Musicali Affetti is precise and knows how to make the best of the often contorted rhythms, and the ensemble is tight. Intonation is excellent, and the voices provided by the Rosso Porpora vocal ensemble complement them well. The voices are clear and bright and the tempos seem to drive the music forward, as does the unambiguous diction where the text is equally clear. © 2018 Fanfare Read complete review

This project shows what happens when the finest scholars and musicians collaborate. They are also excited by and devoted to their task, working tirelessly to champion fine music that has lain unplayable for decades if not centuries. The booklet notes and DVD describe the historical and cultural significance of the collection, and these strong and lively performances demonstrate its value as music to delight and engage listeners today. © 2018 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

MusicWeb International, December 2017

Considering the historical importance of this collection of music by Marini, this is a ground-breaking production. For the first time the complete Op. 2 is available on disc, and its importance cannot be overstated. That is underlined by the way it has been released by Tactus. I have often complained about a lack of translations of vocal music, but in this case a file with the lyrics and English translations is available from the Tactus website. Moreover, the English translation of the liner-notes is exemplary, in contrast to many other booklets on this label. And we also get a DVD-Video with a documentary about Marini and this particular collection.

There is also nothing to complain about the instrumentalists of I Musicali Affetti. The playing is technically immaculate and the interpretation is lively and full of zest. The contrasts within the various pieces is explored to the full. I am mostly positive about the vocal part of this disc as well. Especially the tenors are very good; the monodic pieces and the duets are particularly well sung. © 2017 MusicWeb International Read complete review
