Ronald E. Grames
Fanfare, November 2016

Franca has the warmly reedy tone and distinct register breaks that I associate with Italian oboe playing, and Pantieri plays on a sweet-toned 1922 Bechstein, so there is a degree of period authenticity in these excellent recordings. The playing itself, in the works for oboe and piano and the two solo piano works—the Sgambati plus a Menuetto by Balzoni—is delightfully lively, fluid, and vocal, and technically impeccable. …This should serve as an excellent resource for oboists looking for new audience-accessible repertoire that does not require transcription, and for everyone else it is a highly recommendable virtuoso recital of pleasingly melodic works for the oboe and piano. © 2016 Fanfare Read complete review

This is satisfying music, tuneful and inventive. © 2016 American Record Guide Read complete review on American Record Guide

…[disc] is full of attractive, tuneful music, cast rather in the easy-listening mode. Luciano Franca’s rich and fruity tone, allied to nimble articulation, is ideal for the repertoire recorded, and while the sound-stage gives real prominence to the oboe, Filippo Pantieri provides a sympathetic accompaniment throughout, as well as contributing a couple of solos of his own later. © 2016 MusicWeb International Read complete review
