Stephen Francis Vasta
Opera News, September 2015

In the title role, Felix Rumpf’s baritone has presence, authority and a fine sense of sweep. He makes expressive sense of the freely structured Romance and intones the Prayer with reverent breadth. As Alvina, his romantic interest, Petra Froese…gives a committed performance, pointing and inflecting the text with character.

The concert recording is first-rate, reproducing the woodwinds with pinpoint imaging and the brass with full-throated depth. © 2015 Opera News Read complete review

Hans de Groot
The WholeNote, September 2015

…this recording should be of interest to anyone who wishes to explore Dvořák’s earlier work. It is given a fine performance by singers and orchestra alike. The tenor, Ferdinand von Bothmer, is especially good in the role of the Danish commander Harald. © 2015 The WholeNote Read complete review

Voix des Arts, August 2015

Under the thoughtfully-wielded baton of Heiko Mathias Förster, the performance by the Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno and Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra…provides great enjoyment and plentiful moments in which glimmers of Dvořák’s operatic future appear in the sometimes ostentatious orchestrations.

Förster and his colleagues provide a well-prepared, well-executed introduction to a score that introduces the listener to a master composer’s freshman exertion in a genre to which he would eventually contribute indelibly. © 2015 Voix des Arts Read complete review

The opportunity to experience the complete work in this generally very fine performance, with Heiko Mathias Förster skillfully leading the Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno and Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, is a most welcome one. © 2015 Read complete review
