BEETHOVEN: Archduke Trio (Thibaud / Casals / Cortot) (1926-1927)
Thibaud, Casals and Cortot were among the greatest virtuosi of their time, first meeting in 1905 to play chamber music for their own enjoyment and making their final appearance in 1934. More than seventy years have passed since their last performance but their recordings are still renowned for their superb technique and innate musicality. Among these are Cortot and Thibaud’s Kreutzer Sonata and the only recording that Cortot and Casals ever made as a pair – Beethoven’s Magic Flute Variations.
