This first ever recording of Così fan tutte, albeit slightly abridged according to the accepted norm of the time, was begun just one month after the Glyndebourne Festival Opera House had opened its doors to the public in May 1934. Conducted by the legendary Mozartian, Fritz Busch, it was released in the Spring of 1936 to wide acclaim and is now considered to be the finest of the Glyndebourne operas recorded pre-war, not least for the ideal balance of the many ensemble movements both in performance and in recording.
