Although John McCormack established an opera career for which he was originally trained, he received his greatest recognition on the concert platform, above all in his repertoire of Irish songs. With his beautifully liquid Gaelic vowels, his expressive colouration of tone and extraordinarily clear diction, McCormack was adored by his audiences. This third volume of recordings, covering the whole of 1912 and the first month of 1913, further documents the earliest years of McCormack’s success in the United States where, in 1918, a national music magazine pronounced him “the most popular singer in the world”.
