DELIUS: Piano Concerto / RAVEL: Jeux d'eau (Moiseiwitsch, Vol. 6) (1925-1950)
This cleverly assembled programme brings together Moiseiwitsch’s solo and concerto recordings of music by twentieth century composers, including the rarely heard Piano Concerto by Delius and one of his favourite encores. Stravinsky’s Etude in F sharp. Most of the works were, to Moiseiwitsch, contemporary, and had been written during his lifetime. They are played with charm, elegance, wit, and an understanding of style combined with a technique of which the listener is never conscious. The recording of Delius’s Piano Concerto, a work described by the pianist himself as ‘one of the most beautiful modern concertos’, is justly considered to be a gramophone classic.
