CHOPIN: Mazurkas (Friedman) (1928-1930)
Ignaz Friedman was an immensely creative pianist in his interpretations. He constantly experimented with rubato, accents, phrasing, pauses, and pedal effects. His playing could be extremely elastic or at times quite tight. The less than six hours of his playing captured on electrical recording represent only a fraction of a large performing repertoire. This recording includes some of his most celebrated interpretations, notably of the Chopin Mazurkas. Of especial interest to collectors will be the inclusion of the Mazurka Op. 41 No. 1, previously only released in the USA and the radio broadcast from November 1940 of Friedman talking about Chopin.
