BEETHOVEN: Symphonies Nos. 1 and 2 (Weingartner) (1935, 1938)
The legendary conductor Felix Weingartner was renowned for his interpretation of the classical repertoire, particularly the music of Beethoven, and was the first to conduct all the Beethoven symphonies on record. Neville Cardus said of the maestro: ‘He belongs to the cultured epoch of music, the epoch of good manners and taste – and sound scholarship.’ The present release is the first in a series of devoted to Weingartner that will include the conductor’s own orchestration of the Hammerklavier Sonata.
