BEETHOVEN: Piano Concerto No. 3 / Triple Concerto (Weingartner) (1937-1939)
This disc continues the series devoted to Felix Weingartner’s recorded legacy of the music of Beethoven. This first-ever recording of the Triple Concerto features the youthful trio of Ricardo Odnoposoff (a later winner of the Ysaÿe Competition), Stefan Auber (who was to make his name as a member of the renowned Kolisch Quartet) and Angelica Morales. The solo part in the Piano Concerto No. 3 is taken by the legendary Marguerite Long, one of the leading French female pianists of the twentieth century. Renowned for her performances of the music of her contemporaries, Ravel, Fauré and Debussy, she is today undeservedly less well known for her authoritative interpretations of Beethoven, Chopin and Mozart.
