Austro-Hungarian by birth and Parisian by adoption, the conductor Adolphe Sibert was a house conductor for Viennese Radio from the age of 24 until the German occupation in 1938. He worked closely with some of the finest composers of the period, including Franz Lehár, Emmerich Kálmán, Robert Stolz and Richard Strauss. In 1952 he was appointed conductor of the Orchestre Lyrique of the ORTF in Paris and from 1965 he was producer for broadcasts of Viennese and light orchestral music for France Musique. In 2003 the Académie du Disque Lyrique posthumously awarded Sibert a ‘Special Distinction’ for his recordings of Viennese Operetta.
