SEGOVIA, Andres: 1944 American Recordings (The) (Segovia, Vol. 1)
The incomparable Segovia was almost fifty-one when he made his first American recordings in January 1944. Although he had been world-renowned for decades, Segovia had a sporadic recording career between 1927 and 1939, and would until the 1950s. This first volume in a series of the great Segovia recordings includes all of the published New York recordings made over a three week period in January 1944, as well as two tracks recorded in London in June 1949. The New York sessions appeared on three 78rpm albums and are heard here in that same sequence. Segovia’s artistry and arrangements remain as fresh as when they were first recorded over sixty years ago.
