RUBINSTEIN: Kamenniy-ostrov, Vol. 2
Anton Rubinstein was an astonishingly creative composer, best known for his ‘Ocean Symphony’ and the operas The Demon and Nero. The genial salon pieces Kammenïy-ostrov, named after the palace of the Russia Grand Duchess Elena Pavlovna, are musical portraits of members of her court. They include the famous Rêve angélique (No. XXII) performed repeatedly in concert and on records. Volume 1 (Nos I–XII) can be heard on Marco Polo 8.223846.
