MOYZES, A.: Symphonies Nos. 1 and 2 (Slovak Radio Symphony, L. Slovák)
Along with Suchoň and Cikker, Alexander Moyzes was one of the three leading Slovak composers who, after World War I, instigated a modernizing process which took account of contemporary trends in music. If, in their brilliant compositional technique, Moyze’s first two symphonies symbolize a new beginning, they also demonstrate that the source of much of his musical inspiration lay in the folk music and beautiful landscape of his native Slovakia.
