LARSSON: Forkladd gud / ROSENBERG: Den heliga natten

Lars-Erik Larsson and Hilding Rosenberg are two of the most influential figures in twentieth-century Swedish music. Both were extremely prolific composers and both actively contributed to Swedish music life, Larsson as a conductor, university lecturer and radio producer, and Rosenberg as an organist, conductor and teacher. Rosenberg’s Christmas Oratorio, Den heliga natten is among his most readily appreciated scores, influenced by a variety of styles, including folk-music, Gregorian chant and Bach. Larsson was in more lyrical and pastoral mood for Förklädd gud, composed as a radio work for a wide audience, to calm a nation encircled by war in 1940.
