GODOWSKY, L.: Piano Music, Vol. 6 - Schubert Transcriptions (Scherbakov)
Remembered as one of the great pianists of his time, Godowsky wrote a quantity of piano music, much of it calling for considerable skill in performance. His transcriptions of songs and other music by Schubert are works of his maturity. They range from simple, poetic transcriptions of the originals to more elaborate re-creations such as the technically demanding Passacaglia. This is a towering set of 44 variations based on the first eight bars of Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony written to mark the centenary of Schubert’s death.
