DANZI: Wind Quintets, Op. 67, Nos. 1-3
Franz Danzi, born in 1763, was an outstanding cellist, playing in the famous Mannheim Orchestra from the age of 15. He composed in many genres, but is largely remembered for his delightful chamber music. In his wind quintets Danzi followed the popular example of Anton Reicha, investing his works with a sprightly vivacity, virtuosity and good humour. His Horn Sonata is a brilliant work that follows the earlier example of Beethoven.
