SZYMANOWSKI: Piano Works, Vol. 3
Considered by many to be the most important Polish composer of the 20th century, Szymanowski developed a truly individual musical language fed by his interest in mysticism, Oriental and Arab cultures, impressionism, the music of Scriabin, Debussy, Richard Strauss and Stravinsky, and the folk music of his native country. The earliest works on this disc show the influence of Chopin and Scriabin, the Études date from the height of his impressionistic period while the Mazurkas and Polish Dances reflect his deep love for the Tatra mountain people and their folk culture. This third disc in the series concludes the cycle of Szymanowski’s piano music.
