PACHELBEL, J.: Organ Works (Rübsam)
One of the most distinguished organists and organ-composers of his time, Johann Pachelbel moved from St Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna to Eisenach and then Erfurt, maintaining a close connection with the Bach family. He spent the last eleven years of his life as organist at the Lutheran Sebalduskirche in his native Nuremberg. While his Canon is now widely known in one arrangement or another, Pachelbel’s organ music remains an important element in repertoire, representing South German organ music at its height in the generation before Johann Sebastian Bach.
