FISCHER: Musical Parnassus, Vol. 2
Johann Fischer brought elements of the French style inherited from Lully to German keyboard music and is said to have influenced the work of his near contemporary, Johann Sebastian Bach. His set of nine suites known collectively as Musical Parnassus transfer French dances from the orchestra to the harpsichord. A major addition to late Baroque keyboard repertoire, they are simple, colourful works which mix fashionable dance forms of the time.
