SCHUBERT, F.: Piano Works for Four Hands, Vol. 3 (Jandó, Kollár)
The most substantial work of this selection of Franz Schubert’s music for piano duet is the Fantasie in F minor, D. 940, which the composer completed in the last year of his life. The Fantasie exhibits a masterful balance between passages of poignant melody and passionate drama. The Overture in F major, D. 675, shares some of this mood of drama, whilst the Variations on an Original Theme, D. 968a, are lighter in mood. The recital is rounded out with a selection of occasional pieces.
