BACH, J.S.: Brandenburg Concertos, Vol. 2 (Cologne Chamber Orchestra, Müller-Brühl)
Among the great works of Johann Sebastian Bach are a group of six orchestral works known as the Brandenburg Concertos. Often described as having been composed for Christian Ludwig, Margrave of Brandenburg, the works were, in fact, written over a long period. This second disc of concertos – Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 6 appear on Naxos 8.554607 – is completed by the fourth Brandenburg recast to form a Harpsichord Concerto. Bach, a master of reusing previous compositions, adapted a Prelude and Fugue for organ, and a Trio Sonata, to form the charming Triple Concerto for violin, flute, harpsichord and strings.
