RODRIGO: Concierto in Modo Galante / Concierto de Estio (Complete Orchestral Works, Vol. 3)
Concerto in modo galante was written for Gaspar Cassadó who praised its delicate orchestral textures. Drawing its inspiration from eighteenth-century Spain and the music of Boccherini, it has a popular feel with touches of irony. For the Concierto de estío for violin and orchestra, Rodrigo looked to Vivaldi’s violin concertos for his structural inspiration. Concierto como un divertimento has a typically Spanish atmosphere, with its opening bolero rhythm and the cello imitating the strumming of a guitar. One of Rodrigo’s earliest works, Cançoneta is a simple and elegant piece showing the influence of impressionist composers.
