GUITAR MUSIC OF ARGENTINA, VOL. 1
This recording brings together pieces written for the guitar by some of the most eminent contemporary composers of Argentina. These include Máximo Pujol, who was born in Buenos Aires in 1957. He has obtained numerous first prizes in composition contests at home and abroad. In 1989 the Union of Argentine Composers granted him the prize for the best composer of classical music for 1988. The guitar works of Máximo Diego Pujol have been performed and recorded throughout the world by artists of the highest calibre. Both Narciso Saúl and Juan Falú are active as performing musicians in Argentina. Saúl has a particular sympathy for the music of Astor Piazzolla. Carlos Guastavino was born in Santa Fé in 1912. He studied in Buenos Aires and in Europe in the years after the war. His compositions included songs, song-cycles and piano pieces. Walter Heinze is active as a teacher of the guitar, as well as composing and performing frequently.
