PRIN: Dioscures / Ephemeres / Le Souffle d'Iris
The French composer and conductor Yves Prin studied conducting with Louis Fourestier at the Paris Conservatory. He now devotes himself full-time to composition developing his own dramatic language and a particular lyrical vision of music. Dioscures features a trio of flute, clarinet and violin complemented by two parallel orchestral groups. In Ephémères Prin has described how he sought to ‘develop a succession of different aural climates’. Commissioned by the distinguished flautist Pierre-Yves Artaud, Le souffle d’Iris features a highly virtuosic solo part for the flute, which combines specific technical innovations, such as blowing into the instrument, the sound of the keys, flutter-tongue and whistle-tone, with the traditional method of playing.
